Welcome to the Maryland Police Training Commission Firearms Safety Training Site.
Completion of this Firearms Safety Training course will satisfy one of the requirements for firearms ownership under Maryland law. You must consult Maryland and federal law for the remaining requirements for legal possession and ownership of a firearm.
There is no cost for taking this course and it should take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

All users are required to complete the registration process before proceeding with the safety course. The information given during the registration process allows us to record your information and create your certificate.
After registration, you will be prompted to select the low bandwidth (for dial up modems) or the broadband version (for DSL, cable, or higher). Please read the requirements, to the right, for viewing the broadband version.
After choosing a version you will begin the Firearms Safety Training course. There is no cost for taking this course and it should only take you approximately 30 minutes to complete.
After you have selected a version and successfully completed the course, your certificate of completion will be created and ready to print.
Firearms Safety Training requirements of the Responsible Gun Safety Act took effect on January 1, 2002. With certain exceptions, Maryland residents wishing to acquire regulated firearms must complete a Firearms Safety Training course.
In accordance with the law, the Maryland Police Training Commission offers a Firearms Safety Training course online and at a few physical locations.

Keep in mind, successful completion of the Firearms Safety Training course is only one of the requirements that must be satisfied before a Maryland resident can legally buy, rent, or otherwise possess a handgun or regulated firearm in Maryland.
